Drahnak, Andrew A., 84 of Ridge Road, Hastings, died March 26, 2003 at Windber Hospice, Windber. Born February 28, 1919, in Hastings, son of Joseph Drahnak and Suzanne (Long) Drahnak-Galovich. Preceded in death by parents, step-father Paul Galovich, infant daughter Denise, brother Joseph Drahnak, and half-brother Francis Galovich. Survived by wife of 47 years, former Mary Pavelko, children, Ann Marie married to Paul Esachina of Blairsville, Karen married to Don Geary of West Newton, Andrew J. married to Jacqueline (Cook) of Fort Mill, SC, Debbie married to Walter Snyder of Rochester, NY, Robert A. married to Gwendolen (Swatski) of Pittsburgh; and grandchildren Lisa and Christine Esachina, Matthew and Daniel Geary, Adam Drahnak, and Ted and Amelia Snyder. Also survived by brother John Drahnak of Hastings and sister Margaret Reber of Murraysville, and half-brothers David Galovich of Hastings, and Edward Galovich of Northern Cambria, and half-sister Betty Lawrence of Painesville, OH. U.S. Army Airborne Veteran of WWII, where he served in the Pacific Theatre. Retired from Barnes and Tucker Coal Co. #24B mine, Nicktown. Member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, U.M.W.A. Local #1269, Bakerton, and Hastings VFW Post 1586. Friends received from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Committal at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by Hastings VFW. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, PA 15963, or to St. Vincent DePaul, 1907 Bigler Avenue, Northern Cambria, PA 15714. A tree will be presented to the family in living memory of Mr. Drahnak by the funeral home.
