Laurito, Dr. Angelo F., 82 of Northern Cambria, died July 20, 2002 at Miners Hospital, Hastings. Born December 22, 1919, in Patton, son of August and Philomena (Benevenuto) Laurito. Preceded in death by parents, a sister Theresa Laurito, brother Fred, and brother-in-law James Pavlock. Survived by wife of 52 years former Althea Pavlock, son Tim married to Tina (Basile) of Northern Cambria, and grandchildren Alissa Mary, Chelsey Jo, and Brian Timothy. Brother of Patrick Laurito and Josephine Lanoy, both of Patton, and James married to Helen (Cardone) of Coraopolis. Also survived by brothers-in-law Neal, and Dewey and wife Jane, sisters-in-law Gladys Yeager, and June (Winsko) Laurito and many loving nieces and nephews. U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of WWII. Graduate of St. Francis University, Loretto, University of Pittsburgh, and Catholic University of Washington, D.C. from which he obtained his PH.D. in School Administration and Psychology; he also attended Penn State University, Syracuse University, and Denver University for miscellaneous educational courses. An educator for 43 years, he worked as K-12 Principal for the Northern Cambria School District before retirement in 1984. He loved his students, and his staff will remember him as a very supportive principal. Prior to coming to Northern Cambria, he taught Latin, History, and Drivers Training and coached basketball and football at Cambria Heights (formerly Patton High School) and taught history and languages at Vintondale High School. He was an instructor of School Administration for Penn State University (Altoona Campus). Also, he worked as a basketball referee. "Ange" as he was known to family and friends loved sports, especially football, basketball, and golf; and he loved to read and travel. Member of Phi Delta Kappa (Pittsburgh Chapter). He was a life member of the National Education Association, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and was past president of the Cambria County Chapter of PASR. His other memberships include the Barnesboro Knights of Columbus where he was a past Grand Knight and sang with the K of C Choir, and Patton American Legion. He was a devout member of the former Christ the King Church where he served on the Finance Council, sang in the choir, and belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society. Member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 Tuesday at Prince of Peace Chapel. Committal in St. Joseph's Cemetery, St. Benedict. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Patton American Legion and VFW organizations.
