Emma "Jean" Catherine Zedek

Zedek, Emma "Jean" Catherine, 79, of Cherry Tree, died October 20, 2004 at home. Born November 7, 1924 in Coalport, daughter of Clayton and Retta (Beers) Wallace. Preceded in death by parents, and an infant son. Survived by husband of 57 years Mike; son John and wife Sue (Durbin) of Simpsonville, SC; and daughter Deborah and husband Stephen Liadis of Houtzdale. Also survived by grandchildren Lynn Zedek of Raleigh, NC; Jack Zedek of Greenville, SC; Dan Zedek and wife Lauren of Chapel Hill, NC; Paul Liadis and wife Liz of Bellefonte; and Christa Liadis of Waldorf, MD. Sister of Sandra and husband Ernest Potutschnig of Flinton; and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graduate of Coalport-Irvona H.S. class of 1942. Worked after graduation at Sylvania in Altoona and for many years as a cook for Harmony Area School District. Jean was very active in the Cherry Tree United Methodist Church as a Sunday School teacher since 1947; as treasurer of Woman's Society; served on administration board of the church; was organist for several years; and had 44 years of Sunday school perfect attendance. Served as Director of Cherry Tree Community Bible School for many years. Also a member for 40 years of Cherry Tree Civic Club, and of T.O.P.S. and K.O.P.S. in Hillsdale. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc., Cherry Tree, and from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Cherry Tree United Methodist Church, Rev. Ronald Marshall. Interment Citizen's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be sent to the Cherry Tree United Methodist Church, Box 63, Cherry Tree, Pa. 15724. A tree will be presented to the family in living memory of Mrs. Zedek by Long-Contres.
