McFARLAND - Genevieve E. "Gene," 99, Cherry Tree, died Feb. 20, 2004, at Lake City Medical Center, Lake City, Fla. Born Sept. 16, 1904, in Cherry Tree, daughter of Jesse L. and Ella (Yingling) Buterbaugh. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, J. Howard, in 1974; brother, Hale; sisters, Mollie Caldwell, Ethel Olsen, Fleda Irwin and Jessie Dunlap. Survived by children: Dorothy "Dottie," and husband, Kirby Morgan, with whom she resided in Lake City, and Marion "Mimi," and husband, Fred Stein, of Miami, Fla. Also survived by sister, Geraldine Green of Cherry Tree; grandchildren, Janet (Gill), Donna (Lee), Kathi, Philip (Stacey) and Robert. Also, great-grandchildren, Erik, James, Brittany, Robyn, Garrett and Laine. Also survived by nieces, Margaret Booser and Jane Lois Stewart; nephews, Fred Caldwell, Martin and James Miller and John Irwin; and a host of devoted friends. She will be missed very much by her family and her many friends who loved her dearly. Mrs. McFarland was a homemaker. In the 1940s, she owned and operated a grocery store and, in the 1950s, a furniture store in Cherry Tree. She was the oldest living member of the Cherry Tree Presbyterian Church and member of the Cherry Tree Civic Club. She loved to plant flowers every spring and nurtured them with loving care. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Long-Contres Funeral Home Inc., Cherry Tree. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cherry Tree Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Daniel Little. Interment, Citizens Cemetery. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to the Cherry Tree Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 189, Cherry Tree, Pa. 15724.
