Gennaro R. “Sonny” Cantalupo, 74 of Northern Cambria passed away early Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at St. Andrew’s Village, Indiana.
He was born December 5, 1946, in Spangler a son to the late Gennaro and Jenny (Bernard) Cantalupo. He married Maria Smorto on June 7, 1969.
Surviving is his wife, Maria; two sons, Paul Cantalupo of Cheswick, Pa and David Cantalupo (Melissa) of North Huntingdon; two grandchildren, Dante Cantalupo and Jonathan Thomas Dietz; a brother Gerald Cantalupo and his beloved dog Molly.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Antonio Cantalupo.
He graduated from Lock Haven University and received his master’s degree from Pittsburgh University.
Sonny retired from the Northern Cambria School District after many years of service. He taught GED courses at Northern Cambria and Cambria County Prison. Sonny also served as the former mayor of Northern Cambria.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Jaycees, and PASR. Sonny enjoyed making his own wine, fishing, hunting, golfing, and gardening.
Friends will be received Thursday, August 26, 2021, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Barrett Funeral Home, 822 Philadelphia Ave., Northern Cambria. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Northern Cambria with Father Mark Groeger officiating.
