George Konitsky

Konitsky, George "Candy", 83 of Northern Cambria, died February 20, 2003 at Miners Medical Center, Hastings. Resident of Haida Manor, Hastings for past two years. Born June 12, 1919, in Bakerton, son of Andrew and Eva (Parella) Konitsky. Preceded in death by parents, brothers John, Mike, and Frank, sisters Mary Kotrick and Catherine Martella. Survived by wife of 56 years, former Agnes Corio, children, Andrew Konitsky, and Rose Marie Sadosky, both of Ebensburg. Loving grandfather of Marita Agnes, Angela Rose and Adrienne Marie Sadosky, all of Pittsburgh, and Daniel and Ashley Konitsky, both of Carrolltown. Brother of Wasco and Harry, both of Northern Cambria, Nancy Sutter of Bakerton, Anne Krawczyk of Ebensburg, Rose Sutter of New York City, and Helen Dilick of Cleveland, OH. U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, where he served 4 years in New Guinea, receiving an honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant. Retired coal miner of 42 years, retiring from Bethlehem Mines #33, Ebensburg. Member of former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, and current member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Member of: UMWA Local, Ebensburg; Barnesboro Sons of Italy Lodge, Slovak Club, American Legion and Polish Legion; Bakerton VFW; and Spangler Senior Citizens. Devoted his life to his wife, children and grandchildren. Avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying fishing with his son and grandson. Loved to polka and attended many polka fests with his wife. Friends received 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Committal at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by local Veteran organizations. A tree will be presented to the family in living memory of Mr. Konitsky by Long-Contres.
