Wasilko Jay M. 72 of Northern Cambria, died Sept. 24, 2003 at Miners Medical Center, Hastings. Born August 22, 1931 in Barnesboro, son of Harry and Fannie (Dzenza) Wasilko. Preceded in death by parents, brothers John, Paul and George and a sister Anna Mehall. Survived by wife of 37 years former Elizabeth Gavlak and children: James of Washington D.C. and Jennifer Haigh of Hull, Massachusetts. Brother of Michael Wasilko of Avon, Ohio; Helen Geneva of Clymer; Mary Jaris of South River, New Jersey; Katherine Sewalish of Mentor, Ohio; Madeline Paronish of North Canton, Ohio; Evelyn Miller of Hastings and Nancy Baron of Blacklick. U.S. Army Veteran of Korean Conflict. Retired School Teacher with over 30 years of service from Northern Cambria School District. 1949 Graduate of Barnesboro High School. Graduate of St. Francis University. Member and lector at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Member of PASR, St. Benedict V.F.W. and Barnesboro Council # 2277 Knights of Columbus. Lifetime honorary member of Civil Defense Club. Served as Susquehanna Twp. Supervisor for 12 years. Charter member of N.C. Parks and Recreation Board. Former member of Miners Hospital Board. Former Chairman of the Board at the Coal Country Medical Center. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc. Northern Cambria, where Parastas service will be held at 8 p.m., and Panachida service at 10 a.m. Saturday. Funeral of Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Rev. Emmanuel Rathapilly. Committal at St. Bernard's Church Cemetery, Hastings. Military Rites will be conducted by local veterans organizations.
