Marjorie E. Steele, 89 of Northern Cambria passed away May 29, 2019 at Transitions Lifecare in North Carolina.
She was born November 7, 1929 in Bakerton a daughter of the late Elmer and Emily (Hadley) Harris. She married Richard “Ditter” Steele, Jr. on June 7, 1950 in Barnesboro. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1981.
Surviving are two sons, Gary and wife Carole of Morrisville, NC and Greg and wife Donna of Irwin, PA; six grandchildren, Caitlin, Ryan, Zachary, Brianna, James and wife Lisa, and Mason; three great grandchildren, Johanna, Sydney and Oscar.
She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Barnesboro High School.
Marjorie worked as a borough secretary for Barnesboro, prior to that as a cafeteria worker at Northern Cambria Elementary/Middle School. Her first job out of high school was in Washington D.C. as a FBI secretary before meeting her husband and returning to Cambria County.
Mrs. Steele was an avid golfer and bowler spending many hours at Cambrian Hills Country Club where for awhile she held the lowest 9 hole score for a women at the club. She also spent many hours at the old Barnesboro bowling alley where for a period of time she once held the highest one-game score for a women at that alley. She volunteered many years at both Barnesboro pool in the snack bar and also at the snack bar at the Barnesboro Midget Colt League baseball fields.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday June 8, 2019 at East Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 910 Chestnut Avenue, Northern Cambria, PA 15714. Arrangements are made by Barrett Funeral Home.
