Havrilla, Michael J. "Slim", 79 of Northern Cambria, died May 1, 2003 at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born August 8, 1923, in Barnesboro, son of Michael and Victoria (Vozar) Havrilla. Preceded in death by parents, sisters Katherine Suwinski and Helen Hauzie, and grandson Darrin Mullen. Survived by loving wife of 55 years, former Gertrude Link, and these devoted children, Bill married to Marge (Lockard) of Reynoldsville, Michael married to Ann (Pisarchik) of Brush Valley, Carol married to Tom Mullen, Tom married to Lynn (Dunchuck), Rick married to Sue (Baron) and Susan engaged to Don Henry, all of Northern Cambria. Also survived by grandchildren Heather (Mullen) married to Harvey Rhine, T.J. Mullen married to Missy (Yuravak), Candy (Havrilla) married to Ray Clawson, Bill and fiance Kelly Bishop, Tina, Mike, Tom, Luke, Rick and Chris Havrilla, and great-grandchildren Hannah and Haley Rhine, and Ray and Sarah Clawson. U.S. Army Veteran. Formerly employed at Rich Hill Coal Mines, Hastings. Retired from Season All Industries, Indiana. Very active member of former St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church and Prince of Peace Church. Past President Slovak Club. Held a passion for the outdoors, camping with his wife and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. Avid gardner and at one time had his own greenhouse. Friends received from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Sunday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Monday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Committal at St. John the Baptist R.C. Cemetery, where Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by local Veteran organizations.
