Sgro, Pete J., 74 of Northern Cambria, died July 28, 2002 at home. Born June 30, 1928, in Barnesboro, son of Frank and Antonia (Spadaro) Sgro. Preceded in death by parents, and infant brother Anthony. Survived by sisters, Frances Sgro, and Beatrice married to William McMullen, Jr., both of Northern Cambria; Catherine married to John Senita, Newport News, VA; Dominica Limburg, Elma, NY; and Mary Gaul, Indiana, PA. He was a devoted and generous uncle to his nieces and nephews, William C. McMullen III, Daniel McMullen, Kathleen (McMullen) Loman, Susan (Senita) Bradshaw, Paul Limburg, LuAnn (Limburg) Burghardt, Raymond Limburg, Mary Kay (Limburg) Morsches, and Annette (Limburg) Reilly, and 18 great-nieces and nephews. A graduate of Barnesboro High School. Attended St. Francis College and is a graduate of Cambria-Rowe Business School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII and served in Japan. On his return from the service, he went to Cleveland and was employed by White Motor Co. He then owned and operated an auto service station and later Sgro's Tavern. Pete enjoyed piloting his own plane. He also owned a trotter, which he entered in horse races. Upon his retirement, he returned to Barnesboro. He enjoyed gardening and playing cards with friends. Pete was a member of the Barnesboro Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and VFW, Cleveland Eagles club, and Euclid, Ohio Elks club. Member of Prince of Peace Church. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Prince of Peace Chapel. Committal at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by local veterans organizations. A tree will be presented to the family in living memory of Mr. Sgro by Long-Contres Funeral Home.
