Chura, Philip L., 85 of Burnside, died January 19, 2003 at home. Born May 1, 1917, in Hastings R.D., son of Albert and Agnes (Sostok) Chura. Preceded in death by parents, brothers Thomas, Albert, Frank, Anthony, Louis, and John, and sisters Stella Maluchnik and Johanna Beltowski. Survived by wife of 60 years, former Mary Cashmere, and children, Philip D. of Hampton Falls, NH, Shirley Prasko of Hastings, and William of Burnside. Also survived by grandchildren Philip A. Chura, Karen Walton, Shannon Dumm, Heather Tague, Joseph, Derek, and Rachel Chura and great-grandchildren Nathan and Tyler Dumm, and Rachel, Megan and Alicea Walton. Brother of Mary Smack of Binghamton, NY, and Helen Majeski of Johnson City, NY. U.S. Army Veteran of WWII where he served in European Theatre and Battle of the Bulge. Retired coal miner from Barnes and Tucker Coal Co. #20 mine. Spent most of his employment at Rich Hill Coal Mines, Hastings. Member of Church of Resurrection, Glen Campbell, Hastings VFW, Firemens Club, and Moose, and Barnesboro American Legion. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc., Cherry Tree, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 12:00 a.m. Thursday at Church of Resurrection. Committal at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Hastings. Military rites will be conducted by local veterans organizations. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Indiana, PA 15701.
