Philip Gowin

 

It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of Philip Gowin 64 of Flinton, PA loving husband, father and family man died August 28, 2016 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born December 22, 1951 in Norfolk, VA to Harvey & Florence (Ciorciari) Gowin, raised in Spotswood, NJ a graduate of Lincoln Technical School in Welding & Business Administration and a member of the American Society of Baking Engineers. He was an accomplished businessman & skilled general contractor in the Industrial Baking Industry and with strength & determination he carried on his grandfather’s business legacy for over 30 years. Although his work took a lot of his time away from family he made sure the quality time he did spend with them was cherished & unforgettable. As an inspiration and guiding force he was always there to help family & friends in so many ways. His heart was so big that even in his final moments he just wanted to make sure that everyone knew how much he loved them. He was preceded in death by his Father, Harvey Gowin Sister, Lorraine Gowin, Brother, Leo Gowin and Grandson Pierce Smith. He was Survived by Mother, Florence Gowin, Spotswood, NJ, Wife Shirley (Fuller) Gowin, Children: CariAnn Gowin(Leonard)Kaczynski, Vero Beach, FL, Julie (Tariq) Mahmood, Yardville, NJ, Harvey (April) Gowin, Sebastian, FL, Philip (Amy) Gowin, Altoona, PA and Heather Ann Gowin at home. Grandchildren: Joey, Amanda, Christina, Sabrina, Katie, Jackalyn, Boston, Trason and Mason and Great-Grandchildren Miles, PJ & Adrian. Brother of Dorothy (Mark) Kerr Edison, NJ Michael St Joseph & Arthur Leary Atlantic City, NJ & Glen Gowin, Paterson, NJ and an abundance of beloved nieces and nephews and bereaved family & friends. Friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday August 31, 2016 at Long-Contres Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria. Mark Kerr officiating.
