Semelsberger, Richard J. 61, Philadelphia (originally from Carrolltown ) died May 7, 2015 at his home after a battle with cancer. Born August 1, 1953 in Spangler, son of Thomas and Bertha (Dillon) Semelsberger. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by siblings, Thomas (wife Cindy), Pittsburgh, David (wife Jane), San Diego, California, Mark, (Mary Fees), Carrolltown, Nancy( husband James) Mohler, Carrolltown and Suzanne of Philadelphia; also nephew Jeremy, son of James and Nancy; David and Robert, sons of David and Jane; Cara and Connor, daughter and son of Mark and Laurie Semelsberger. He graduated from the Preparatory High School at St. Vincent College, Latrobe in 1967, where he received his undergraduate degree in 1971. He received his graduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, and Temple University in Philadelphia. He worked for 30 years at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, first as a laboratory technician, then later as a laboratory supervisor. He was an avid collector of items that reminded him of his childhood and of Cambria County history. He enjoyed watching the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates and riding his bicycle through the local countryside. Most of all he loved spending time with his family in Carrolltown during the holidays. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. Saturday May 16 at the Boniface Wimmer Room in the Church Annex, followed by funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Benedicts Roman Catholic Church, Carrolltown. Rev. Jude Brady will be the celebrant, assisted by Deacon Jeremy Mohler. Committal will be at St. Benedicts Church Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc, Northern Cambria.
