Rita Mae Switzler

Switzler, Rita Mae, 57 of Northern Cambria, died September 20, 2004 at UPMC-Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born February 4, 1947, in Spangler, daughter of John and Clara (Macucci) Drotar. Preceded in death by parents, infant son Christian, sister Anna Marie Drotar, and brother John Drotar, Jr. Survived by husband of 33 years Donald; children Donald Jr. married to Jennifer (Bizak), Camp Hill, Heidi married to Dr. Stanley Gorski, Pottsville, Gretchen and Jennifer, both at home. Also grandsons Landon and Matthew Switzler. Sister of Anastasia and husband George Harris, Emmaus; Robert and wife Claire (Wrenn), Framingham, MA; Carolyn and husband Larry Sherwin, Southport, NC; Nicholas and wife Beth (James), Northern Cambria. Also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. Member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Retired from Northern Cambria School District after 30 years of teaching 1st grade. Member of former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church where she was the CCD and 1st Communion class coordinator for over 30 years and also a Eucharistic minister. Member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. School Board member at Bishop Carroll High School. Rita loved gardening and playing tennis. Friends received from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, where Altar and Rosary Society will recite rosary at 3:00 p.m. and vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Committal at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society by calling 266-8744 in Johnstown.
