Steve "Zip" Soltis, 84 of Emeigh, died November 29, 2002 at Miners Hospital. Born May 15, 1918, in Barnesboro, son of John and Helen (Yurapka) Soltis. Preceded in death by parents, sisters Mary McDonald, John, Helen Hogue, Mike, Kathryn Soltis, and Pete. Survived by sisters, Dorothy Streck, Pitman, NJ, and Margaret Liberatore, Cleveland, OH, and several nieces and nephews. U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he served in 5 major battles and 2nd wave into Normandy. Member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church. Formerly employed as a coal miner. Retired from General Motors, Cleveland, OH. He most recently worked as a livestock farmer. Friends received from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc. Northern Cambria, where panachida service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday and also at 9:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral of Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Rev. Oliver Hebert. Committal at church cemetery. A tree will be presented to the family in living memory of Mr. Soltis by the funeral home.
