Kertis, Thomas, 82 of Northern Cambria, died June 18, 2005, at Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh. Born May 12, 1923 in Barnesboro, son of Paul and Ann (Kolesar) Kertis. Preceded in death by his father in 1981. Survived by mother Ann, Northern Cambria, who is 100 years young. Survived by wife of 55 years former Ann Shutty; children Carla Brezinski, Maryland; Tom, Arizona; and Jenny McGrail, Bob and Jim, all of Pittsburgh; and 7 beautiful grandchildren. Also survived by sisters Rufina Scott, Lakewood,OH; and Irene Pipon, Seven Springs. Tom graduated from Barnesboro H.S. in 1941. U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. Employed for years in sales tax for the state; retired insurance agent, in 1990, after 25 years with American General. Member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church; and former member of Knights of Columbus. He and Ann had a very happy marriage. They loved to listen and dance to big band music along with many friends. They also had fun traveling out west. Tom enjoyed life; taking his family fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, playing cards, and even picking berries and looking for hickory nuts. He lived a good life. Friends received from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, where Altar and Rosary Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday followed by vigil for the deceased. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Committal will follow at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by local veterans' organizations. Family requests that memorial contributions be made to Knights of Columbus, Council 2277, 1112 Chestnut Avenue, Northern Cambria, PA 15714.
