William Garay

Garay, William, 73, of Elmora, went to be with the Lord peacefully, September 1, 2003 at Haida Manor, Hastings. Born May 22, 1930 in Hastings R.D., son of Steven and Margaret (Szakal) Garay. Preceded in death by parents, brothers Steven, James, and Arthur, and sisters Helen Kankula, Pearl Sterrick, and Julia Zazvrsky. Survived by wife of 49 years, former Shirley Malloy and these children: Janice married to James Funyak of Shepherdsville, KY, William A. married to Michele (Toskey) of Hastings, Lori married to Brian Peterson of Ridgefield, Connecticut, Aimee married to Dennis Molly of Johnstown, and Craig married to Linda (Malich) of Pittsburgh; and 10 grandchildren. Brother of Margaret Sarafi of Oak Ridge, TN, and Betty Pachan of Cleveland, OH. Also survived by niece Lynn Norberg and husband Larry. Deep Mine Safety Supervisor for DEP. Former owner and operator of Garay Coal Company and Garay's Store. Member, Trustee and Choir member of Bakerton United Methodist Church and also member of Hungarian Reform Church, Vintondale. Served on Board of Directors at First National Bank of Bakerton and Cambrian Hills Country Club. Member of Summit Lodge #312, F&AM, Ebensburg and also Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Altoona and Jaffa Shrine. Former member and president of Barnesboro Kiwanis Club. Past President of several mine rescue associations. Friends received 2-4 and 6:30 a
