William Hicks Jr.

Hicks, William Jr. 97 Northern Cambria,  died August 25, 2016 at Golden Living Center-Haida, Hastings. Born July 19, 1919 in Spangler, son of William Sr. and Mary (Byron) Hicks. Preceded in death by parents, brothers Joseph, Howard and David and sisters Esther Plasky and Dorothy Gogolia. Survived by wife of 72 years Christina (Anderson) Hicks, children Dwight (Susan Kinney) Austintown, Ohio, Patricia Ann (David) Lyntz, Youngstown, Ohio and Sherry Lynn (Ronald) Calabrase, Owings Mills, Md.,  grandchildren Christopher "Pokey" Gilo, Jeremy Overacker and Mandy Meladonia, 7 great-grandchildren, sister  Ruth McCleary, Philadelphia and sisters-in-law Margaret Lamb, Seward and Susan Vargo, Delaware. A U.S. Army Veteran of WWII of the 10th Mountain Division. Bill was formerly employed by Barnes & Tucker Coal Co. #24 Mine. A member of Cambrian Hills Golf Club for many years. He also loved to crochet. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, at  Long-Contres Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria. Rev. Bill Mullins. Internment  McDowell Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by local veterans groups .
