PATTISON - William J. "The Popman," 85, of HAIDA Manor, Hastings, formerly of Bakerton, died Feb. 17, 2004, at the manor. Born Aug. 19, 1918, in Dixonville, son of late Dixon and Venus Pattison. Survived by wife of 57 years, former Phyllis Tripp; and children: William C., Bakerton; Gary L. and wife, Donna Jean (Book), Northern Cambria; and Nancy Kay, at home; also 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Brother of Elizabeth Mae Dorr, Florida; Thelma Pennington, Aberdeen, Md.; and Dixon Robert, Dundalk, Md. U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Retired coal miner from Sterling #1 Mine, Bakerton. Member of UMWA, Local 1269, Bakerton; Bakerton VFW and Somerset Christian Fellowship Church. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Long-Contres Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, the Rev. William J. Dodson. Interment at North Barnesboro Cemetery, where military graveside rite will be conducted by local veterans groups.
